How to Make the Aviation Cocktail

The Aviation cocktail is a refreshing and light drink that is made with gin, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice, and crème de violette. The gin provides a juniper-forward base, while the maraschino liqueur and crème de violette add a hint of sweetness and floral notes. Finally, the lemon juice adds a tart and tangy flavour that balances out the sweetness of the other ingredients.

The Aviation is thought to have been created in the early 1900s, around the same time that powered flight was becoming a reality. It is said to have been named after the pioneering aviator Charles Lindbergh, who made the first solo transatlantic flight in 1927. The light blue colour of the drink, which is achieved by using crème de violette, is said to have been inspired by the sky.
